Q Jelly

Recently, we went to a DIY shop in Bandar Puteri.. Just happen on that day, there was a grand opening of a cake shop. Curious, we went in to take a look.

This is a cake shop not selling conventional cakes but jelly cakes. Just take a look at the beautiful design.

This is my favourite, Christmas tree

This doesn’t come cheap though. They do not have pricing for the above, but the simpler one tier jelly cake in display cost about RM80 plus. I guess they have to charge a lot for their labor and skills.

However, just look at the colouring… Imagine small kids consuming all those colouring…

Eventful journey

As I mentioned in the previous post, the Supervisor maid has gone back home for one month break. She experienced an eventful journey. Hope she wasn't traumatized by it. Let me share her story...

Her flight was on 5pm Saturday. However, the flight was delay until 9pm. After boarding the plane, they were ushered down again because the plane's door cannot close properly. These boarding and unboarding the plane occured 3-4 times and the plane finally depart at 12am. On the same night, I checked my email noticed that there was a email from Transnusa informing that her connecting flight to Sumba at 12.30pm Sunday was postponed to Monday.

She then decided to stay a night at her husband's brother home at Bali. On Sunday, 2 of the relative's children died because motobike accident. On Monday, she flew to Sumba bringing two coffin with her...

She called me before the flight took off and related the story to me while still sobbing...Finally, when I called her at 5.15pm the same say, she told me she has just reached her home and saw her two children after 4 years...

Slow in updating recently...

The Supervisor maid has gone home for one month break. Small M resisted the Blur Maid and insisted everthing must be done by mummy, otherwise, he would cry and cough out all his stomach content. Seeing the mummy doing everthing for Small M, Big M also wants everthing be done by mummy too.

My time now mostly involve the 2 M's and finally when they are asleep, I am half way to dreamland too...zzz

Express Tiramisu at Starbuck

Few days after trying their Ipanema cake, I tried their cake again, Express Tiramisu.

The cake was not to my liking at all. The coffee taste was weak, the mascorpone cream taste was weak, infact, there was no tiramisu aroma around it. Nothing like Tiramisu cake from Alexis or Italiannies.

It did taste like something was not right and guess what...

I took the cake around 2pm, not long after that, keep on burping out the little taste that the cake had, started feeling nauseous and tummy ache 2-3 hours later. To cut the story short, I have food poisoning for the next 2 days! Instead of taking care of Old M in the hospital, he had to worry over me.

Would I try the cake again?

Ipanema Cake, Starbuck

Ipanema Cake at Starbuck

Recently, while waiting for an appointment, I bought a slice of Ipanema Cake at Starbuck.

This was a very chocolatety cake with rich chocolate sponge cake layered with chocolate cream. The top part taste like chocolate fudge.

In the middle of the cake, there was a thin layer of cream that taste like coconut. Unless you spooned the cream by itself, you wouldn’t be able to taste the coconut since the chocolate overwhelmed it. I would prefer more of the cream so that the cake would have a more distinguished taste as compared to other rich chocolate cakes.

This cake would definitely satisfy my craving for chocolate cakes but it was not extraordinary (unless it has more coconut cream?)

And here is the net price for the cake.

Prawn Crisps

This is a super easy recipe:

250g prawns or shrimps
5 tbsp flour
1/2 rice bowl of water (use more if you want extra crispy or use less for slightly chewy inside)
Pinch of salt
Pinch of sugar
Pinch or pepper
1/2 tsp of ENO (or Sodium Bicarbonate)
Enough oil for frying

1) Mix flour with water

2) Add salt, sugar, pepper and prawns

3) Just before frying, add in Eno

4) Scoope using tablespoon and pour into hot oil

4) Fry until golden brown

Super easy isn't?

2nd Operation

It has been some time since I update my blog. This is because Old M underwent a 2nd slipped disk operation last Monday, in differrent hospital, with different doctor, of course.

Before the surgery, the new doctor told us that a new slipped disk right after a slipped disk operation does happen, although not often. After the operation, the new doctor asked us questions that for me were quite puzzling.

New doc.: Does your previous operation was done at a short time?

Old M: No, It took about 2 hours too...

New doc: Hmm... I see.. (after a while, he asked again). The disk that he took out, is it in one piece or many pieces?

Old M: Many pieces.

New doc: If the disk was taken out in one piece, we can be sure we have taken out all the slipped disk. If the disk was broken to small pieces, sometimes it can be difficult to see if all the disks were out

Me: Does that means the previous doc did not take all the slipped disk out in the operation as my husband felt the pain only few days after the surgery?

New doc: This s a very good question, but I cannot answer you that...

So,you see, that is why I say it was puzzling. Maybe he saw something or suspected something but dare not say anything for sure? You tell me...

Old M is week after the 2nd op. Doctor says this is expected and it would take longer time to recuperate.

Supper

Last Thursday, we brought Big M for supper at Everyday Food Court opposite Tesco Puchong. There is a stall selling pork noodles that is very much to our liking. The stall is located near the main entrance to the food court, opposite a stall selling Vietnamese food.

This was the first time we brought Big M out for supper. Usually , we would order take-away. A day before, I told me about bringing him out for supper and he got really excited. I told him he need to take a nap tommorror so he can stay up until supper time.

On Thursday morning, he woke up at 10 am and at 12pm, he said he wanted to take a nap! Or else mummy wont bring him for supper. Old M, saw him so 'ke lien' (pityful) told him no need to take nap since he woke up at 10am.

The moment Big M saw me when I reached home from work, he rushed out and said' "Mummy! Mummy! Papi said I no need to take nap today since I woke up at 10am. So, Can I go out for supper?"

Supper time...

This is sooo good...

Already finished wor...

I wanted to take a photo on the Milo to show how worthy the RM2 Milo that we paid for because it was sooo thick. I forgot that I have set the camera to sequence mode. When I looked at the photos later, I realised not a single drop of the noodles soup was wasted. Just look at the the blue color bowl in the background ...

Second operation for Old M?

Last Thursday, I brought Old M to see the doctor again. Yes, the same one, the one who is very sure of himself.

The pain has returned after changing the medication to less 'damaging' types, 2 days earlier. This time, Old M asked for second MRI.

This is what the MRI shown: There were debris of the disk around the original spot, and a disk still slipped at the same spot touching the nerve, which, the doctor claimed, new disk has leaked out. It further show that the inflammation from the surgery has not subside.

The debris? The new leak? Does this mean the doctor performed poorly the first time? Before the surgery, he told us he would take out the remaining disk as much as possible to prevent further leak at the same spot, and look what happened now.

But, of course the way the doctor put it, it sound like he is a rescuer...

Doc: When you tell me the pain is worst than before, I cannot dispute you. Your case is very different. Out of 100 cases, none have this problem. I am your doctor, I cannot let you suffer like this. I can do a 2nd sugery. Do you want it?

Old M: Err.. surgery again?

Doc: There, you see... That is why I say no need for MRI. But you wanted it. If you want to operate again 2 month later, you need to do another MRI, do you know that? This one will be a waste then...
.
Old M: The 1st MRI, which was done 3 months before the operation, why there is no MRI before... (The doctor interrupted before he can complete the sentence)

Doctor: That's why we are concerned too.

Old Me and I:!!!???@@

At the end, to make to story short, the doctor gave him the 'damaging' pain killer again for another 2 weeks and see which direction to go after that.

Be Still Pleaseee....

I put on new shirts and trousers for the two M to see how they fit. After that, I asked them to be still so that I can take some photographs.

Do they stay still? NOOO....

Wrestling...

"CAN YOU BE STILL AND LET ME TAKE YOUR PHOTOS!!!"

That's better...

Having a bad day? Watch this...

What a week...

(A wordy, non-picture post below)

On Sunday, Small M walk into soapy and watery kitchen floor and had a nasty fall. Fell flat to the back with backhead knocking into the risen curb between dining area and the kitchen. The Blur maid was mopping, saw the whole thing, still can replay the whole incident for us, but couldn't do anything. The Supervisor maid was following Small M around 8 feet behind, eyes being covered by shit, couldn't see the Blur maid mopping.

Suddenly a loud thump! Everyone, I mean EVERYONE, including Old M... who, after the surgery, moved like slo-mo Lee Major in Six Million Dollar Man,jumped up in lightning speed. We all saw SMall M lying motionless and silent! My heart dropped, blood drained! No good!Sh##! and then... a thunderous wail! Thank goodness, he was conscious! We quickly used ice on his head. The bump was like a ping pong ball. Too worried, make him drink some liquid (to see if he was nauseous) and rushed him to Sunway Medical Centre. Saw the doctor, give me the usual lecture on if vomiting so on and on, then you bring him back again.

Thank you God, he has gone back to be his usual Small M soon after.

Monday morning, Big M woke up with temperature 38.4 degree. The Blur maid (who is sleeping with Big M at the moment)said at 4am, the fever was even higher, extremely hot.
I asked why didn't you wake me up? She was like ????????(she gave me a even blurrer look, if that was even possible!!!) 'tak tahu....mam...'

"Then, what do you do?" I asked
"Tidurrr..." she answered.
what the ##$@&**##!!!!! I almost vommitted blood.

The same morning, I brought Old M for post surgery check-up. His pain has gotten worst as compared to pre-surgery. The Doctor said it was unusual as out of 100 cases that he'd operated, none experience worst pain.

So I asked him what can possibly be wrong here? Hoping to hear some encouraging, positive remakes.

Doctor: "I don't know. I can make mistake too. Ain't I'm a human too"

Me and Old M: "?!?!???!!!#@???!!!"

Doctor: "I would give you stronger medication for one week. If you doesn't get
better, you would need another MRI."

Me: "Can he do MRI now?"

Old M: "Yes, Can I do MRI now?"

Doctor put down his pen and look at me: "We don't simply do thing to earn money. DO YOU KNOW WHY WE DO MRI. YOU TELL ME. WHY DO MRI!(pause for few second...) WHEN I ASK HIM TO DO MRI, THAT'S MEAN A POSSIBLE 2ND SURGERY. DO YOU WANT THAT NOW? DO YOU?"

Me and Old M: "?!?!???!!!#@*???!!!"

Both Old M and myself became speechless. Don't know what to say. And on the way out, Doctor said, "I know what I am doing. When I operated him I am sure of myself."

Me and Old M: "?!?!???!!!#@*???!!!"

Doctor: "Don't worry. We can make it right."

Old M: "Yes, but I'm the one who's in pain"

Doctor: "Mou kai ler"

I pray for Old M recovery.

And Thank God, as today, Thursday, Big M has recovered from fever.

Mt Kinabalu

I came accross some pictures taken during our Kota Kinabalu trip beginning of the year. This was actually a mountain climbing trip. As I knew my limitation at the time, I didn't climb the mountain. Nine persons climbed the mountain. Three reached the highest check point and three reached the peak.

These were the pictures taken by Old Monster (Old M):

At the summit

Seen this everywhere isn't? But it is not the highest peak.

Wish I were there...

Wish I were there again...

Wish I were there again and again...

Wish I were th... Ah! never mind!

Old M Seven months after the trip... Underwent a slipped disk surgery and have to wear this...after sailing up the Mountain like a Beemer, and gliding down the Mountain like a Mustang :) Having said that, I do feel for hubby. He won't be able to participate in his favourite sports again. Guess we got to find him a new hobby!

And what did I do while waiting for them to descent?

Birthday

The first two powerpuff girls cakes were the Big M 5th birthday and Small M 2nd birthday cakes celebrated on the 25 October 2009. Thank you to all that came and celebrated with us. The 2 Ms have a fantastic day because of all of you!

And the Ultraman cake... that was the cake we bought for him to celebrate with his friends at his kindergarten on the 29 October 2009.

I asked him when he was back from school," Does the cake taste good?"

Big M: " Yes, very good"

Me: "You all manage to finish the cake?"

Big M: "No, since the cake is square, it can be cut to many pieces. I like round one more"

Me: "So what happen to the rest of the cake?"

Big M: "The teacher took it"

Me: ???!

I said, "you got to drink neng neng before eating mee...

"Nooooooo... Didi wants mee..."

After much negotiation, he finally agreed to taking milk. After cooking instant noodle, he didn't want to eat first, instead, he wanted to follow us sending big M to kindergarten.

So, off we go...

Couldn't bear the separation from big brother, he cried all the way back.

Well, he stop crying once i place the mee in front of him :)
